my family of 4 has just had a week in the sept. school hols at the mantra and found it to be excellent. we had a double ocean view room overlooking the esplanade pool and ocean. it was great to sit on our balcony [one of 3] and watch all the boats go in and out of the harbour morning and night and we were central to everything and hardly used our car as the tours pick up and deliver you back to the hotel. good service, fully equiped room, washer/dryer and full kitchen and 2 bathrooms and 3 tv's what more could you want. i would recommend this place to everyone. much better than an island resort that we spent 3 nights on. go to the mantra.we will go again.
2 friends and I stayed here for 4 nights, we booked online and it was about $250 per night which was comparative with other hotels in the area. For that price we didn't get out towels replaced during our stay, there were stains on the carpet, the beds weren't configured how we had requested and there was an extra cost to use the safe. On the up side we had a balcony, it was free to use the pool even when we had checked out and parking was free. However I wouldn't visit this hotel again.
Am sad to read negative reviews of the Mantra Esplanade. Really enjoyed time there. Location is perfect, apts.very nice, bed comfy, washing machine and dryer. Get an ocean view if poss. On 5th floor and it was great, with lovely views, 2 mins. to supermarket. All staff were helpful and friendly. Jennifer now on maternity leave, but endless smile and efficiency. Had to get two small things fixed and Dean completed within 1 hour, and was pleasant too. Pool was lovely, enjoyed birds coming home to roost at 5 pm...so pretty. I am hoping to return in 2013.... and will recommend to friends. Travel agent next door good too, also used Mini car rentals,Sheridan St. and they were great as well. Will return 2013 or before if possible.
We stayed here for a week at the beginning of July in a one bedroom apartment - unfortunately when we booked there were no water views left but we had a lovely apartment facing the hinterland and overlooking the street behind which was fine. The hotel is in the most convenient location in the main street but not noisy at all. The staff were willing to help but some staff were not your typical friendly Aussies, however, overall good value for money, clean and an excellent location. The pool is average as it is located at the back of the property, however, we never swam in it. Cairns is a lovely destination - a must for all travellers to Aus.
I personally always stay with Mantra Group and always have done as i do generally love their product however sometimes they do have some rather rude staff... Overall i liked this hotel for everything! The location was fantastic, the one bedroom apartment we stayed in was large and was well equipted with a laundry etc.. the lighting was fairly dim however so you had to keep the fluro's on all the time at night however that wasen't a massive issue. I thought the pool was small, however i didn't really know what to expect as i didn't look so it wasen't a let down or anything. There was one let down for me and that was one particular staff member. I unfortunatley didn't get his name however he was an older man doing an overnight shift who was extreamly rude and abrupt! Otherthen that i think this hotel was great! i loved it was so close to the pub (literally upstairs) however i can understand why this may not appeal to some people.
The only good thing about this hotel was its location. We had a one bedroom appartment overlooking the ocean. We stayed here for four days, and in all this time there was only one receptionist that went out of her way to help with a smile. The room looked very tired and needed to be refurbished. The rooms furniture was covered in dust. The utensils, cooktop, sink and oven didn't look like it had been cleaned properly for a long time. Bottom of oven trays were covered in grease. We were promised that our room would be refreshed, yet in the four days that we were there, our towels, toilet paper, coffee, tea etc were never replaced, our bins were never emptied. I felt that I had to wash everything before I could feel comfortable to use it. There were tiny ants crawling around in the kitchen cupboards. We booked this trip for my 50th birthday getaway, but the hotel just let us down. We will never stay here again, and would steer people away from even thinking of staying there
Having stayed at a Mantra hotel recently on business in Brisbane (South Bank) we looked for a Mantra hotel when coming to Cairns for our family holiday. We had a 2 bed apartment which was clean and comfortable. My wife loved having the washing machine available! Staff were friendly and helpful with what to do. The hotel location is fantastic, close to shops and is on the main restaurant strip. Also very close to where the boats leave for the reef trips, walking distance. A great central hotel and we got a good deal on Wotif
. Apartment was functional . Had basic kitchen, lounge dining area large bedroom and small bathroom. The location was excellent close to restaurants. Our room overlooked the old courthouse which is a beautiful old heritage building which has been transformed into a Pub. We were quite happy with the deal we got but soon discovered why the room had been reduced from about $200 per night down to $130 (wotif) we had to endure a band playing loud music outdoors at the front of the pub.We were on the 4th floor and all windosw/doors were closed but the music was thumping on Friday night to about 1am. We also copped it on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. No room no matter how much it is reduced is worth putting up with this. The restaurant and patterisie which was attache to this property had also closed down.
The Mantra has a great location right on the Esplanade - 5 minute walk to the Ferry Terminal for boats to the Great Barrier Reef and to the night markets and restaurants on the Esplanade. A few doors down is the official information centre (as opposed to the many unofficial information centres) althought we found the front desk staff had a lot of info too about how to get to attractions and the like and were always friendly and helpful. We had a two bedroom apartment with kitchen and laundry. Very roomy and spacious. Heard the rubbish trucks early in the morning and a little noise from the pub behind the hotel but nothing major. Got a good deal for staying a week. They have rates on the website but we emailed them too and they gave us a little more discount (our travel agent offered to book us there but could not match the rate the hotel gave us ! Shame on you Flight Centre). We flew out in the evening and when we went back to get out bags they said we could shower in the gym area whi
we stayed in a ocean view apartment on the top floor (corner .) We couldn't fault it . we have read all the visitor reviews in trip advisor good and bad . At the and of our 6 nights stay we couldn't think of anything bad for this place .--------- And the lady at the reception extra helpful.---------- bit pricey but it's worth it .
