As a seasoned global traveler it surprises me that in 2013 a hotel of this class charge EUR 25/day or some EUR 7/hr for WLan. Even modest one star hotels offer free WLan nowadays. As a compensation must be admitted that the hotel offers free a nice Business center with 3 Apple computers, here a PC user must note that the keyboard of Apple is different from the qwerty. Room was clean, stayed 3 days, the marble finish in the bathroom was first class but it had a bathtub and a shower. As the hotel is only some few years old, one would think that the green thinking should have influenced on the bathroom, instead of the bathtub a bidet would have been a better alternative. Breakfast was as expected, personnel courteous, hotel adjacent to KuDamm, exactly where I wanted to be for my wife's shopping spree.
Not typically our first choice in hotel types, but given the location to a nearby conference, this hotel turned out very nice. You can't beat brand new rooms. The bell staff was outstanding. service in the bistro cafe was so-so. Nice bar. The Gurlein Spa was, well, girly (gurly). Zen seems to more gender nuetral. Although polite and professional, the service was week. For a one hour deep tissue massage (that was not deep,) I checked in and was back in my room literally within one hour and that included changing room and pre-massage footbath. Not really worth the splurge. Also, the fitness center is hidden behind the spa and there was no signage indicating so.
Really enjoyed my 3 night stay here. Traveled for business. Service was great, very attentive. Upon check in (came in late 10pm), I was kindly greeted and checked in very quick. The agent at the desk explained to me everything I would need for my stay (restaurants, floors, gym, etc). I held a company event here as well. Service was also great during the event. Only downside was there were two events happening on the same floor, so a lot of other people kept walking through our break area for lunch and break times. Other than that, I could not complain! Rooms were great, comfortable. Shrimp dinner off of the room service menu is delicious!
service: check in / check out takes such a long time. shouldn't be so time consuming with the waldorf astoria name. service was so-so. rooms: were HOT. i've seen many other reviewers mentioning the room temperature issue, and wish i had listened. it felt like the hotel had all the controls on my room's thermostat. the first night we called reception to have someone take a look at our thermostat, they said they would send somebody up, however no staff knocked on our door. space-wise the rooms were big, not the best sleep from beds, compared to the ritz or even a w heavenly bed. bathrooms also spacious, though not all the lights were working in our room (mirror light) and after 4 nights at the hotel, we still couldn't find the remote control for the bathroom tv. location: the subway is right in front of the hotel. most places we went to involved a 10-15 minute cab ride, so we didn't feel it was the best location for us. it was near the shopping street, but still quite a walk if you are traveling with the elderly. we'll be checking in to the the ritz carlton next time. same price.
We stayed here at the weekend as my husband wanted to surprise me with a romantic weekend away. The hotel itself is beautiful and our room was clean and had all the luxuries you would expect from a hotel of this standard. On arrival my husband had arranged with the hotel to have a beautiful red rose placed in a vase in the room for me. We went out for dinner and came home only to find that my beautiful rose and it's vase had been REMOVED from our room by housekeeping when they came to fold down the bed. I was so upset - I always keep roses from special weekends away and I dry and press them at home. Imagine housekeeping removing a rose and vase that my husband had specifically arranged for the hotel to place in the room for me. We called that evening to complain and reception told us that they would try and get the rose back, but we had still not heard anything by 18.00 the next day so we complained again and that evening we found the rose had been returned (though probably not the same one) and there was not even a note to apologise from hotel management!! No apology at all. I found this really rude. On a positive note, I went for a massage in the hotel and it was wonderful - a lovely Portuguese girl did my massage and she did a great job. We dined at the restaurant, Les Solistes, that evening and it was very nice - perfect service and pretty good food. The breakfast staff were also wonderful - so helpful and attentive and breakfast was pretty good too. On the second night I was annoyed by housekeeping again as they came to fold down the bed at 20.30 as we were getting ready to go out. Seeing my husband in his underwear, the housekeeping person just made to come straight in when my husband answered the door and my husband had to put his hand up to stop the guy (as I was half-undressed in the bathroom) and told him to come back in 30 mins. I thought that was pretty bad. Housekeeping should always ask if it's appropriate to come in when they come to the door. All in all a good experience and we would go back, but the service really has to be improved. We weren't impressed by a couple of the door men either, though there was one excellent door man too. I would say that only the restaurant staff provided consistently good service.
